Hennepin County burns 365,000 tons of trash every year at the HERC trash burner — and 80,000 tons of toxic ash left over gets trucked across the metro to an industrial landfill in northern Dakota County, near Spring Lake Park Reserve.
Now the county is facing legal action over it.
Join us Thursday, June 25 at 6 p.m. for a virtual public hearing on HERC incinerator ash — what's in it, where it goes, and what the county should do about it.
The Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy has issued a formal legal demand requiring Hennepin County to comply with state law and account for the lead, mercury, dioxins, and forever chemicals in the HERC trash burner's ash. The county's 2024-2029 Solid Waste Management Plan does not mention incinerator ash once.
Join panelists from the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, the Minnesota Environmental Justice Table, and community members directly impacted by the HERC trash burner as they present findings and take questions.
